Parent Notification for
State Mandated
Scoliosis Screening
The State of California requires that all 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys be screened for scoliosis. Scoliosis is a sideways (lateral) curvature of the spine that usually develops between 10 and 16 years of age. The screening will be conducted on Monday April 19th during physical education class.
The exam consists of a visual inspection of the unclothed back and upper torso. Girls will wear their bras during the exam. Parents will be notified by mail if their child’s scoliosis screeing indicates a need for further medical evaluation.
If you have questions, please call Health Services at (714) 986-7170.
Should you decide that you DO NOT wish to have your child participate in this screening, a written notice by a parent/guardian will be required to be on file. Please have the note sent to the health office at your child’s school.
