Principal's Message

Dear Tuffree Families and Community Members:

It's a privilege to serve as principal at Tuffree Middle School, a 2017 Gold Ribbon School.  We are committed to serving our families and educating our students with excellence. More than that, we are committed to teaching our students how to have a “Growth Mindset” and to live what we call a “212 Degree

lifestyle!  Click on those links to explore what we mean!  In essence, we teach our students to

tackle challenges because they understand that learning takes a lot of effort. They don't give up when things get difficult, because they have strategies to persevere. They take risks, participate in class, and understand that mistakes are normal when people try hard things. We teach them that one degree extra could mean all the difference between good and great! Parents can support this at home in many ways.  Check this website for ideas.

Our core values include RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and TEAMWORK. All our programs and decisions come back to those three important values. Our carefully crafted school purpose statement is as follows: Through teamwork, TMS is committed to fostering a positive, safe, and caring community that empowers students to be respectful, responsible, and engaged learners moving toward college and career readiness.

Preparing all students for college and careers is very important to our staff. To that end, we are implementing school-wide AVID strategies.  What is AVID? AVID stands for “Advancement Via Individual Determination.” AVID is not just another program, but at it’s heart, it is a philosophy. It holds students accountable to the highest standards and provides academic and social support. It teaches students organization, study habits, critical reading and writing strategies, how to use the inquiry process in all subjects, and how to collaborate with others. All these skills are critical to success in high school, college, and the global workforce. We are taking these wonderful strategies into every classrooms for all students school-wide.

It is my sincere honor to serve Tuffree Middle School as its “Lead Learner.” We are so glad you are part of our Falcon family here at Tuffree!

Sincerely,

Cindy Freeman
